Healthy Relationships Energize Life

Are you a happy person?

Do you feel like a well-adjusted individual?

Have you thought to consider what role relationships might play in your answers to these questions?

We were never intended to be lone rangers in this world. That would mean we had to carry the full load of life for ourselves, and most of us are woefully inadequate for the task. Where we are strong, we need companionship and challenge, and where we are weak, we need help.

It’s wonderful having people in our lives who are so much like us they can predict our preferences, finish our thoughts and fully understand our ideas without our even explaining them beyond a skeleton version. These are true soul-mates – a joy to experience. They inspire us and make us feel totally understood as they perceive life from the same perspective as we do.

But it’s also wonderful having people who are somewhat different – shades of us, but with refreshing surprises to some aspects of perspective. When we least expect it, they infuse an originality to the equation that is like fresh water on a thirsty day. These people bring a measure of understanding along with fresh perspective, and contribute to our lives by motivating us toward balance and fresh creativity.

And then there are the people who are totally opposite to ourselves. These are the ones who are hardest to understand, and hardest to get along with, because they represent strength where we are weak. Most of us don’t want to admit our weaknesses, and pride and fear of criticism can keep us from benefiting from these people who have the potential to become treasures in our lives. They view life from an opposite perspective, balancing our weaknesses with their strengths, while we have the privilege of sharing our strengths for their weaknesses. These people are invaluable in our lives once we embrace the potential of our gift to them, and theirs in return. But personal understanding isn’t as natural, so we need to work on that aspect in order to find the joy it can bring.

I feel so blessed in life to have learned the meaning of connection with different types of personalities. It has enriched my life immeasurably, and brought great joy as I have recognized and appreciated the plethora of colours in the personalities I’ve met.

But it has cost me by having to become a student of understanding relationships.

Are you desiring to enrich your life and develop greater health in your relationships? It will cost you, but the journey will energize you and bring a new glow to your life.
